Karina studiert Kommunikation und Journalismus in Kolumbien. Um ihr Studium erfolgreich abzuschliessen, musste sie auch ein Praktikumssemester absolvieren.

Doch die angehende Sport-Journalistin wollte mehr als nur Arbeitserfahrung im eigenen Land. Sie wollte ihre Englischkenntnisse verbessern und ausserdem die Welt kennen lernen. Australien ist sehr multikulturell, jung und vorallem auch sehr sportbegeistert! So beschloss sie ihr Praktikum in Australien zu machen. Wir haben für sie ein abwechslungsreiches Praktikum in einer internationalen Firma fuer Sportinformationen und Produkte organisiert.

Hier ist Karinas Erfahrungsbericht:

“My internship was a great opportunity to improve my English level and get knowledge and experience about sports. At the beginning, it was a bit tough because of the language and low confidence level with staff interaction. However, after 3 months of internship I have improved my English skills and I have learnt a lot of things about sports in Australia.

Thanks to my host organisation, my supervisor and my boss I was watching a game of the Australian Football League (AFL) at the stadium; it was an amazing opportunity to get to know the rugby rules and understand the sense of the game. I had to stand up all the time because it was full of fans, I felt a chill on all my body, and I couldn’t believe it.

Also, I started to compare the Rugby game with the passion for soccer in my country and it was unbelievable because people from Sydney enjoy the game and maintain control for the passion while in Colombia passion is passion and football is football.

I was also covering an Event in Sydney called Veteran’s fencing World Championships 2007 during the weekend, it was pretty cool because I had to make an interview with the Silver Medallist when they finished the competition, I was scared because it was my first time doing an interview in my second language, which was a big challenge in my career. At this event, I had the opportunity to share ideas with people from Japan, Italy, and Germany.

Everyone at the office was very kind and patient with me, they tried to teach me as much as they could and I tried to help them as much as I could. This Internship has been unforgettable; I think I have a lot of positive things to say in my country about this great professional practice and all the staff.

My host organisation has had interns from different countries such as Germany, Brazil and Japan, but the best thing is that I’m the first Colombian journalist working and sharing information with them about my beautiful country in Australia.”
